01Know The Exam
An afternoon here saves months of studying the wrong things.
- Pattern & marking scheme
Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) is 75 questions for 300 marks in 3 hours — 25 questions per subject, split 20 MCQ (Section A) and 5 numerical (Section B).
- The 2025 change most students miss
Section B used to give you ten numericals to pick five from. That choice is gone, and negative marking now applies there too.
- Two sessions, best of two
JEE Main runs in January and April. If you sit both, the better NTA score counts — so session 1 is a free, full-stakes rehearsal.
- Deleted syllabus — stop studying this
NTA cut roughly 15% of the syllabus in 2024 and it has stayed out since. Old books and old seniors will still push these at you.

Small chapter, easy marks, and dimensional analysis lets you eliminate wrong options all paper long.
- Kinematics
Motion in a straight line and in a plane. Graph-reading questions appear almost every session.
- Laws of Motion
Free-body diagrams are the single most transferable skill in Physics. Get ruthless about drawing them.
- Work, Energy & Power
Often the fast route through a problem that looks brutal with forces alone.
- Rotational Motion
The chapter most students fear and most students under-prepare. It is very learnable, and it is scoring.
- Gravitation
Short syllabus, predictable question shapes, reliably 1–2 questions.
- Properties of Solids & Liquids
A grab-bag chapter that quietly supplies formula-based marks every year.
- Units, Dimensions & Measurement
03Physics · Heat, Oscillations & Waves
Compact chapters with a very high marks-per-hour return.
- Thermodynamics
Small chapter, consistently 2–3 questions, and it overlaps with Chemistry thermodynamics.
- Kinetic Theory of Gases
Formula-driven and quick to master. Regularly 1–2 questions.
- Oscillations (SHM)
Recognising SHM in a disguised system is the whole skill here.
- Waves & Sound
Standing waves and beats are the recurring favourites.
- Thermodynamics

The heaviest-weighted block in Physics. Treat it that way.
- Electrostatics
Among the highest-weighted Physics chapters year after year.
- Current Electricity
Typically the single most-asked Physics chapter in recent sessions.
- Magnetic Effects of Current & Magnetism
Biot–Savart and Ampere's law do most of the work here.
- EMI & Alternating Current
Faraday, Lenz, and then the LCR circuit — dependable marks every session.
- Electromagnetic Waves
Tiny chapter, almost pure recall, and nearly always worth a question.
- Electrostatics

High return per hour — finish these before the last month.
- Ray Optics
Sign conventions cause more lost marks here than concepts do.
- Wave Optics
Young's double slit is asked more or less every single session.
- Dual Nature of Matter & Radiation
Short, conceptual, and very reliably examined.
- Atoms & Nuclei
Bohr's model overlaps directly with Chemistry atomic structure — study them together.
- Semiconductor Electronic Devices
Note that transistor topics were pruned in the 2024 revision — confirm the current scope.
- Experimental Skills
A dedicated syllabus unit that most candidates skip entirely. Cheap marks.
- Ray Optics
06Chemistry · Physical
The calculation half. Mole concept first — everything leans on it.
- Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry
The mole concept underpins stoichiometry, solutions, equilibrium and electrochemistry. Weak here means weak everywhere.
- Atomic Structure
Overlaps heavily with Physics (Atoms). Learn once, score in two subjects.
- Chemical Bonding & Molecular Structure
The highest-value chapter in Chemistry — it feeds directly into both Inorganic and Organic.
- Chemical Thermodynamics
Conceptually the same machinery as Physics thermodynamics, applied to reactions.
- Solutions
Colligative properties are almost guaranteed to show up.
- Equilibrium
Two chapters in one: physical/chemical equilibrium and ionic equilibrium.
- Redox Reactions & Electrochemistry
Balancing redox equations is a skill worth drilling until it is automatic.
- Chemical Kinetics
Small, formula-driven, and dependable.
- Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry
07Chemistry · Inorganic
Four units after the 2024 cuts. Memory-heavy, and the fastest block to finish.
- Classification of Elements & Periodicity
Trends explain most of Inorganic. Learn the reasoning, not just the order.
- p-Block Elements
The largest Inorganic chapter. Groups 13–18, reactions and compounds.
- d- and f-Block Elements
Transition metal behaviour plus lanthanoids and actinoids.
- Coordination Compounds
Consistently 2–3 questions, and very learnable in a week.
- Classification of Elements & Periodicity
08Chemistry · Organic
Mechanism-first. Memorising reactions without GOC does not survive the exam.
- Purification & Characterisation
Short unit covering separation methods and quantitative analysis.
- Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry
GOC is the master key. Every reaction in every later chapter is an application of what is here.
- Hydrocarbons
Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and aromatics — where mechanisms become concrete.
- Organic Compounds containing Halogens
SN1 vs SN2 vs E1 vs E2 is the most examined decision in Organic.
- Organic Compounds containing Oxygen
The largest Organic block — alcohols, phenols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, acids.
- Organic Compounds containing Nitrogen
Amines and diazonium salts — a compact, reliably examined block.
- Biomolecules
Mostly recall. Note that Polymers and Chemistry in Everyday Life were deleted.
- Purification & Characterisation
09Maths · Algebra
With calculus, over half the Mathematics paper.
- Sets, Relations & Functions
The vocabulary the rest of the paper is written in.
- Complex Numbers & Quadratic Equations
Two closely linked topics, reliably 2–3 questions between them.
- Matrices & Determinants
Mechanical and high-yield — among the most consistently asked Maths chapters.
- Permutations & Combinations
Short syllabus, deceptively tricky questions. Practice is the only fix.
- Binomial Theorem
Very formulaic, and almost always worth a question.
- Sequences & Series
AP, GP, HP and standard summations.
- Sets, Relations & Functions
10Maths · Calculus
The single heaviest block in the Mathematics paper.
- Limits, Continuity & Differentiability
Feeds every later calculus question. Be fluent, not merely familiar.
- Integral Calculus
Indefinite and definite integration, plus area under curves.
- Differential Equations
Small chapter, standard forms, near-guaranteed marks.
- Limits, Continuity & Differentiability
11Maths · Geometry, Vectors & Probability
Coordinate geometry alone is worth roughly five questions.
- Trigonometry
Identities feed into calculus, complex numbers and coordinate geometry alike.
- Straight Lines & Circles
The foundation of the whole coordinate geometry block.
- Conic Sections
Parabola, ellipse and hyperbola — usually 2–3 questions.
- 3D Geometry & Vector Algebra
Merged and trimmed in the 2024 revision — check the current scope before over-preparing.
- Statistics & Probability
Statistics is nearly free marks; probability needs genuine practice.
- Trigonometry
12The Practice System
Coverage does not score. Retrieval does.
- NCERT first, always
Especially for Chemistry, where questions are lifted almost verbatim from NCERT lines. Finish it before touching a reference book.
- Previous year questions
The highest-value material in existence for this exam. PYQs tell you what the syllabus document cannot: what actually gets asked.
- Mock tests on a schedule
Three hours of sustained accuracy is a trained skill, separate from knowing the syllabus.
- Analyse harder than you attempt
A mock you do not analyse is three hours thrown away. Budget more time for review than for the test.
- Error log & revision notes
One notebook per subject, only the things you got wrong. By March it becomes the only thing you need to revise.
- Speed & attempt strategy
At roughly 2.4 minutes per question, knowing when to leave one is worth as much as knowing how to solve it.
- NCERT first, always
13Last 60 Days & After
No new topics. Consolidate, test, and get the admin right.
- The final revision plan
The last two months are for retrieval, not for coverage. Starting a brand-new chapter here usually costs more than it returns.
- Session 1 → Session 2
The window between sessions is the most valuable month in the whole year. Most people waste it.
- Exam day protocol
Remove every variable that isn't the paper.
- JoSAA counselling
A great rank badly filled is a wasted rank. This is decided in one afternoon.
- On to JEE Advanced
The top ~2.5 lakh Main qualifiers are eligible for Advanced, and it is a genuinely different exam.
- Not burning out
This is a two-year exam. The students who peak in October rarely peak in January.
- The final revision plan
